    EVE'S BAYOU I think this is the first time I watched this film in its entirety because there was only one scene in this movie that I remembered that I'll get to later. Majority of my film history is from the 90s as you can see on my page and this is definitely one of the most uniquely feeling from this decade. It's past midnight on May 27 as I write this and I'm struggling to put this into words for this review. The vibe of Eve's Bayou is wholesome, sad, unsettling, and something else I can't quite put into words. This is a very human story about a young girl who struggles with the affection she has for her father and her sister. This is told through the eyes of titular character Eve and one night at a dinner party she falls asleep and witnesses her father having sex with another woman.       I Love Boosters  I was a huge fan of Boots Riley's last film Sorry to Bother You which released all the way back in 2018 surprisingly enough so when I got word of his next film coming out I knew I had to see it. I caught this at an advance screening at an Alamo theater which included a Q&A livestream at the end.  Like Sorry to Bother You , I Love Boosters is a film that critiques capitalism. While Sorry to Bother You focused on how it can change the individual, I Love Boosters comments on how it affects the whole. I Love Boosters is a very trippy film. This is a film I have to see at least two more times because I was quite confused in the beginning I feel funny comparing to Sorry to Bother You so much but this film's metaphors are less straight forward compared Sorry to Bother You .    Tokyo Pop  I've been meaning to watch Tokyo Pop for a while now. I actually came across this from a Tumblr post. This tumblr post wasn't anything all that special; it just featured the images of this movie's posters, but the title and the colors from those posters drew me in. I liked the aesthetic of it and the synopsis was intriguing enough so I added it to my watchlist and it became the first film on my Letterboxd watchlist. I finally watched it and I liked it just as I hoped. This film as the description says on IMDB is about an American rock singer who goes to Japan initially to meet up with a friend but she ends up meeting a Japanese singer in a rock band and their lives intertwine. It is an interesting film that leaves you feeling warm at the end. I do miss just how visually pleasing movies used to look.  This is a very personal blog entry for me. I know the title alone will illicit certain reactions and assumptions. This is not a internet rant about a man feeling entitled to women or blaming the black community for not being accepted. This is my personal experience and I feel there's a lot of people that are dismissive about nerds' feelings on this subject. At my ripe old age I have never dated before and haven't had any friends since I graduated college back in 2014. In my childhood finding friends was fine, but it was in my high school years when it was really hard. I had only one real friend in those years and he had dropped out at one point so I was alone most of the time.     This year I went to Otakon 2025 which took place from August 8-10. Otakon is a Japanese culture convention held in Washington D.C. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This was my third year attending Otakon. I attended last year in 2024 and my first year was in 2021. As mentioned Otakon is a Japanese culture convention as implied from the name of the convention Otakon is a combination of the words otaku and convention. Though it centers around Japanese culture the emphasis on the con is more centered on anime. That may be a result of the community as anime has gotten way more popular since the con's inception in the 90s. Otakon offers events like traditional Japanese dance and music performances, idol performances, a manga library, panels focusing on anime, traveling to Japan, video rooms where you can watch anime, a vendor's hall and artist alley, and so much more. So the first film of Warner Bros. new DCU is out and is it any good? I think so. When Superman was first announced James Gunn announced that getting Superman right was important to him so her personally took on the task of writing and directing this film. The result of this I liked overall but it also came with some flaws. Let's dive into it and as a heads up I will be marking a separate section for spoilers so just look out for large bold spoiler warnings, but here are my overall thoughts. This iteration of Superman is bringing back the fun and color of live-action Superman movies. The DCEU version of Superman was in muted and dark colors starting from Man of Steel to Justice League and with a more serious tone. This version of Superman is more colorful and full of hope. This is shown through a brighter color palette and the personality and tone of Superman. David Corenswet plays the titular character and he might be my favorite live-action depiction.
